Perfect Day in Kazbegi

We'd spent some unbelievable time in the Caucasus already, so now to see the mountains themselves! A day trip to Kazbegi from Tbilisi is a few hours in a mini-bus...a few tight, curvy, mountainous, stunning hours. Once we arrived to the center of town we made our way up to the 14th century Gergeti Trinity Church (Sameba Monastery). And UP is really what the hike was, about 1.5 hours ascent. Even though there was crisp, fall weather, once you were in the direct sunlight in the altitude it got quite warm. Good thing I wore skinny jeans.

Sameba Monastery: 2,170 metres/7,120 feet
Mount Kazbek: 5,033 metres/16,521 feet

Kazbegi was so elating, it left us singing this tune all day long!
